After the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, internet access was denied to people of J&K citing security reasons. Limited 2G access was allowed since February after the supreme court judgment that access to the Internet is constitutionally protected.

Kannan expressed concerns that we are failing our own citizens by denying them basic human and democratic rights. “This is how a young student from J&K is going to remember India’s judiciary as he grows up”, he added.
